The Fitchburg Police Department is offering to conduct house checks for Fitchburg residents who will be away on vacation, business, or other personal reasons. The house checks will be conducted by members of the Fitchburg Police Department's Citizens on Patrol. Citizens on Patrol is a volunteer group that serve as extra eyes and ears of the Fitchburg Police Department. They do not have any police powers. They will conduct a perimeter check of the outside of your home. In the event they discover a burglary into your residence while you are away, they will notify the Fitchburg Police Department dispatch center and an officer will respond to investigate. Under no circumstances will the Citizens on Patrol enter the residence. They will leave a card at your residence with the dates and times they conducted the house check.
