 Citizens on Patrol

Citizens on Patrol is comprised of members of our community who volunteer a minumum of 4 hours per week to patrol our community. The members of Citizens on Patrol (COP) patrol schools, shopping plazas, parks, and playgrounds while serving as extra "eyes and ears" of our department. They do not confront anyone while on duty, instead they report their observations to Fitchburg Police dispatch for appropriate follow-up. The Citizens on Patrol operate a refurbished police vehicle that while giving the appearance of a patrol car is distinct from Fitchburg Police Department patrol vehicles. The vehicle is equipped with a radio and a cell-phone for communication with dispatch. Members wear a distinct uniform and carry an ID for identification purposes. While on duty, they follow instructions of the Patrol Division Officer-in-Charge.
