The Fitchburg Police Department is offering to conduct house checks for Fitchburg residents who will be away on vacation, business, or for other personal reasons. These house checks will be conducted by members of the Fitchburg Police Department's Citizens on Patrol. Citizens on Patrol is a volunteer group that serve as extra eyes and ears for the Fitchburg Police Department. They do not have any police powers. They will conduct a perimeter check of the outside of your home. In the event a burglary is discovered while you are away, they will notify the Fitchburg Police Department dispatch center and an officer will respond to investigate. Under no circumstances will a volunteer enter the residence. The Citizens on Patrol will leave a card at your residence with the dates and times they conducted the house check. Underage drinking parties are also a serious problem and the Fitchburg Police Department wants to remind parents about this program.

Note: Remember, this program lets parents register their address with the department to have their home checked while they are away. The program is free and is also aimed at decreasing the number of parties where underage drinking occurs. It also keeps your child safe and your home free from damage and, best of all, it gives parents and their children peace of mind.
