The City of Fitchburg, Massachusetts is a diverse community (population 39,000) currently seeking an established professional for the position of Chief of Police. The department has 100 employees (90 sworn officers) and an annual budget of approximately $7 million. Appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, the successful candidate must possess strong communication, leadership, organization and management skills, as well as proven integrity working with a community and Police Department. Experience with, and a strong commitment to, modern innovative policing strategies and problem-oriented policing is required.
The position requires a four-year college degree (masters preferred) in criminal justice or a related field and a minimum of no less than five (5) years in a progressively responsible management position at the rank of permanent Police Sergeant or above. The successful candidate must be certifiable by the Municipal Policing Training Committee.
