Resource Request Guidelines
Books, DVDs, CDs, audio books, etc. may be requested under the following circumstances:
- The item is checked out.
- The item is missing.
- The item is not owned by the Fitchburg Public Library.
To place a request for an item you may:
- Locate the item in the CWMARS catalog and click on the request button next to the item. You will need to type in your card number, and a PIN--if you haven’t set one up, try the last 4 digits of your phone number.
- If it’s not available from CWMARS, you can log into the Commonwealth Catalog to borrow from another library in the state. You’ll get an email or phone call when the item arrives.
- Call the reference librarian (978) 829-1780 or visit the library in person.
Fees
Normally, there is no charge for materials received through interlibrary loan. If we have to obtain an item from out of state, there is a $3 fee so that we can mail the item back. Some libraries may charge for requested photocopies. If you have question, please ask a librarian.
Fines for overdue interlibrary loaned items vary, as each library has their own fine schedule.
We Can Help You Find Materials
If the item is not owned by any library in our network, we will do what we can to locate an item outside the network or even outside the state. This sometimes takes longer, and it is best to discuss your needs with a librarian.
Remember to always have your library card with you when visiting the library and borrowing materials.
